Master's students must satisfy a number of requirements. Some of these are specified by the graduate school and some have been identified by us.
We require that students, who have not had the following courses or their equivalents, take:
Students who have had any of these courses at the senior or graduate level need not repeat the ones already taken, and cannot obtain credit for taking any course a second time. Any of these courses not already taken for undergraduate credit may be taken for graduate credit.
We require that, in addition to satisfying the core requirements, students must take five (5) courses in at least three (3) different areas. Students may not use a course to satisfy both core and breadth/depth requirements.
The department offers graduate courses in the following broad areas:
The current list of courses that fall in each broad area is provided at

and will periodically be updated.
Students who meet core requirements before admission to the graduate program, will be allowed flexibility in pursuing their interests. Such students can follow a program of study approved by their advisor and conforming to the breadth and depth requirements.
